Automotive industry requires secure information

It’s not a new topic by any means. In April 2005, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) had already suggested to all of its members to implement an information security management system (ISMS). It was recommended to use as a basis the international standard BS 7799, which has now been replaced by the globally valid ISO/IEC 27001.

In January 2006, the VDA extended its recommendation with the framework for product safety in the German automotive industry (Protection of prototypes), thereby emphasizing the importance of protected development work in the automotive industry.

Now, the first automobile manufacturer has specifically required his suppliers to prove the certification of an implemented information security management system. The goal is to ensure a constant confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and to protect its exchange on a very high level. A call that could certainly have an alarming impact for the sector.
